Back to It

Four weeks ago I was on a plane to Omaha. Things that I would soon encounter: winter, snow, many layers of clothing, movie theaters with recent movies, grocery stores with overwhelming amounts of cereal and other deliciousness, and TARGET. Did I forget to mention that I got to spend Christmas with my family? As much as I love Nicaragua (and dislike the cold), Christmas is meant to be with family (which just so happens to be in a cold location) complete with decorated house, Christmas Eve pajamas, and too many Christmas cookies. Toss in coffee shop conversations with best friends and late night antics with my little sisters, and we are talking happiness all around.

Last week I was on a plane back to Nicaragua. Things I would soon encounter: a scorpion stinging one of my students, a mouse on the loose in my apartment, ants in my hair, three new students, heat, sunshine, an almost car accident, a very large and nasty bug inside my freshly cut vegetable (let's just say I won't be cutting peppers for a while), and realizing that I left my library book on the airplane. Oops. Today I was back to my Saturday morning activity of sitting in the sun and reading. Back to the normal routines of life revolving around school and my students. Back to early nights, earlier mornings, and the hope that my students will learn tons of new things during the day. Not back, but continuing to thank God for my life in both places and the people and activities that make each place what it is.

Happy New Year to my blog readers and supporters! May God bless you richly in this new year.
